Charizard

About Charizard
Charizard (Japanese: Lizardon) is a dual-type Fire/Flying Pokémon. As a Fire-type starter, Charizard has the ability to learn Blast Burn. Because of the wings it has grown upon evolution, Charizard can fly and can use many other Flying-type abilities. As its pre-evolutions could, it can use Fire-type moves. It also has access to Dragon-type moves, such as Dragon Claw and DragonBreath. Since Charizard is a fully evolved Pokémon, it can use Hyper Beam and Giga Impact.

Evolution
It evolves from Charmeleon at level 36. It is the final form of Charmander.

How Charizard's Name Came To Be
Charizard resembles the European dragon, certainly one of many forms told and rendered in legends. Charizard's prominence as a dragon without being of the Dragon-type is further reinforced in the video game Pokémon Ranger, where one makes a cameo as one of four prominently featured patron elemental dragon Pokémon. The other three Pokémon sharing this distinguishing trait are legitimate Dragon-type Pokémon; Salamence, Kingdra, and Flygon. The patronage of these four dragons is inspired from the four classical elements; Air, Water, Earth, and Fire, with Charizard being the representative of Fire. It shares some evolutionary traits with Charmeleon in its distinctive horns; also a distinct trait in some dragons. Charizard's name is a portmanteau of the words char, to burn, and lizard. Lizardon, on the other hand, is a combination of lizard and don, which is a suffix meaning tooth that is commonly used in dinosaur names.

Charmeleon

About Charmeleon
Charmeleon (Japanese: Lizardo) is a Fire-type Pokémon. Charmeleon can breathe fire. This fire is much hotter than Charmander's. This is a result of a larger flame burning at the tip of its tail than that of Charmander's. It possesses incredibly large claws which it utilizes in its powerful Slash attack. Its tail is also very powerful, having enough strength to lift an adult man.

Evolution
It evolves from Charmander starting at level 16, and evolves into Charizard starting at level 36.

How Charmeleon's Name Came To Be
Charmeleon resembles a small dinosaur with remnants of Charmander's salamander-like appearance. Although its nomenclature suggests commonality with the chameleon, Charmeleon exhibits very few of the major physiologically distinguishing traits of the chameleon. Charmeleon hasn't the specialized zygodactylic feet, separately mobile eyes, extrudable tongue, or the ability to change color like some members of the chameleon species. The few characteristics it does share are the similarly looking snout, a prominent head crest (which resembles a small horn in its Generation I back sprite), and extensive use of its tail. Chameleons have prehensile tails used for climbing and grasping, while Charmeleon utilizes its tail as a weapon. Charmeleon's name is a portmanteau of the word char, to burn, and chameleon. Its Japanese name is the Katakana spelling of lizard.

Charmander

About Charmander
Charmander (Japanese: Hitokage) is a Fire-type Pokémon. Along with Bulbasaur and Squirtle, it is one of three starter Pokémon available at the beginning of Pokémon Red, Green, Blue, FireRed, and LeafGreen.Charmander can breathe fire, which allows them to use a wide range of Fire-type attacks. However, the strength of these are very closely connected to the strength and health of the Charmander, since it draws on the life force which fuels the flame on its tail to fuel the flames of its attacks. With time, it can learn powerful Fire-type techniques like Flamethrower and Fire Blast. It can even learn to breathe the blue flames of Dragon Rage. It can also use the flame on its tail to attack by swinging it about, or wield its small, yet sharp claws to use Slash. However, these attacks are usually weaker than those from the flames Charmander breathes.

Evolution
It evolves into Charmeleon at level 16, whom evolves into Charizard at level 36.

How Charmander's Name Came To Be
Charmander may have been partially inspired by the salamander, an amphibian bearing a slender body, short nose, and a long tail; it exhibits other physical lizard-like characteristics. The salamander and Charmander themselves may have been inspired by the mythological creature of the same name, the salamander; fire-spirits who survive in extreme heat or flames, sometimes creatively rendered and interpreted to be in the shape of lizards. Charmander is a portmanteau of the words char, to burn, and salamander. Hitokage, on the other hand, comes from 火蜥蜴, which is also salamander. 火 hi and 蜥蜴 tokage separately means "fire lizard."

Venusaur

About Venusaur
Venusaur (Japanese: Fushigibana) is a dual-type Grass/Poison Pokémon. As with its pre-evolutions, most of Venusaur's attacks involve the plant on its back; but the attacks are clearly stronger than those from Bulbasaur and Ivysaur. The flower on its back has a pleasant aroma that may attract other Pokémon. The aroma can also sooth people's emotions and calm Pokémon engaged in battle. The fragrance is stronger after a rainy day. The flower also absorbs sunlight to convert it into energy, thus making it far stronger during summertime. It is also able to charge at its enemies to gain speed, then perform moves such as Skull Bash and Body Slam with a force more powerful than a speeding armored truck. Additionally, it is capable of making incredible leaps for such a heavy Pokémon, and it's able to dodge attacks and jump across close rock formations. Its only downside is that its weight causes a small quake as it lands (of which appears to be the means that Venusaur uses the move Earthquake) which can break the platform it’s trying to land on, or cause it to get buried in mud or sand. Since Venusaur is a fully evolved Pokémon (and the final evolution of a Grass-typed Starter Pokémon for that matter), it can use Hyper Beam, Giga Impact and Frenzy Plant.

Evolution
It evolves from Ivysaur at level 32. It is the final form of Bulbasaur.

How Venusaur's Name Came To Be
Venusaur resembles the mammal-like reptile from the Triassic Period, Kannemeyeria, as well as toads, as do its pre-evolutions Bulbasaur and Ivysaur. The flowering plant's origin is unknown but it appears to be a palm tree. The flower itself resembles the parasitic Rafflesia. Venusaur's name is a combination of the words venus and saur, which is Greek for lizard. Its Japanese name is a pun on fushigi na hana, strange flower.

Ivysaur

About Ivysaur
Ivysaur (Japanese: Fushigisou) is a dual-type Grass/Poison Pokémon. Much like its previous form, most of Ivysaur's abilities originate from the plant on its back. Naturally, these attacks are stronger than Bulbasaur's. Its abilities are such like petals, powders, and scents than vines and leaves, most likely because of the larger flower on its back. In the anime, Ivysaur are shown to manipulate nature.

Evolution
It evolves from Bulbasaur at level 16, and evolves into Venusaur at level 32.

How Ivysaur's Name Came To Be
Ivysaur is a lizard-based Pokémon and appears to be based on some form of  Dicynodont, mammal-like reptiles from the Permian. Ivysaur's name is a combination of the words ivy and saur, which is Greek for lizard. Its Japanese name can be taken to mean "it seems strange", or fushigi sou strange grass.

Bulbasaur

About Bulbasaur
In National Pokédex order, it is the first Pokémon, and is as well the first Pokémon in the Kanto Pokédex and Fiore Browser. It is one of the three starter Pokémon of the Kanto region, alongside Charmander and Squirtle, and can be chosen by the player in Pokémon Red, Green, and Blue as well as Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, their remakes.

Evolution
Bulbasaur evolves into Ivysaur at level 16, and then evolves into Venusaur at level 32.

How Bulbasaur's Name Came To Be
Bulbasaur appears to be based on some form of Dicynodont, mammal-like reptiles from the Permian period. Its bulb resembles that of a lily. Bulbasaur's name is a combination of the words bulb and saur, which is Greek for lizard. Its Japanese name literally means "it's strange, isn't it?", and is a pun on, fushigidane, strange seed.
